Frequently Asked Questions
What exactly is Advanced Urgent Care?
As an emergency room alternative, Advanced Urgent Care (AUC) stands ready to meet your unscheduled medical needs. From minor problems such as cuts, earaches and flu symptoms to more serious emergencies like abdominal pain, shortness of breath and fever, we are here to help. Our experienced team of Emergency Physicians is backed by an on-site lab, Digital X-ray, MRI, Ultrasound and CT scanner, so we can quickly, efficiently and affordably treat most medical complications.
Do I need to make an appointment?
No appointment is needed for medical examinations. However, the last walk-in patient should arrive at least 30 minutes prior to closing and will be seen at the doctor's discretion. For patients in need of diagnostic testing (e.g. CT scan, Digital X-ray, Coronary Artery Calcium Scoring, Lung Cancer Screening, Ultrasound, MRI or blood work), please call us to make an appointment, or have your referring physician call us ahead of time.
I arrived 35 minutes before closing or called ahead and was turned away. Why is that?
Since we are a walk-in clinic, we cannot predict the number of patients who visit us each day, nor the severity of their cases. If you arrive near closing time, and we have determined that we are currently at capacity (or taking on an additional patient would put us past operating hours), then our policy is to have one of our medical staff assess the urgency of your situation. Upon this evaluation, we may ask that you wait to be seen, go to the ER, or come back first thing tomorrow morning.
While we would sincerely like to care for every patient who arrives, we simply cannot stay open past closing time for technical and safety reasons. Therefore, we suggest that you arrive as early as possible. Please note that especially during flu season and COVID-19 surges, wait times can be longer than average, and earlier closing times may be enacted. The last patient is generally admitted 30 minutes prior to closing, or seen at the doctor's discretion.
What should I bring to my visit?
Please bring valid identification, your insurance card, and any pertinent medical records.
Hablas español?
Si, hablamos español.
I don't have a primary care doctor. Can I still come to AUC?
Absolutely. We are here for general and urgent medical needs. Beginning October 2023, we will also be offering primary care at our Key Largo location.
How do I know if I need the hospital ER or AUC?
If you feel that you are in life-threatening condition or in need of an ambulance, please call 911. For virtually all other health issues, we can help.
What is your average wait time?
Unlike hospitals who can keep you waiting for hours, or primary care physicians who can be booked for weeks, our average wait time is 35 minutes. However, since we are a walk-in clinic, we cannot predict the number of patients who arrive each day nor the severity of their cases. We kindly ask for your patience as we treat others who have arrived ahead of you.
What can I do while I wait?
We proudly offer free Wi-Fi, live television, a substantial magazine assortment as well as coloring pages for children.
Do you have parking?
Yes, we have sizable free parking lots at all locations.
Will my medical insurance be accepted?
We accept most major insurance plans including: Medicare, Blue Cross / Blue Shield, Cigna, Tricare, Aetna, Humana and United. We are an authorized Veteran's Affairs Authorized Clinic. We are sorry, but at this time we do not accept Medicaid.
How else can I pay?
We accept credit cards, debit cards and cash. For cash-paying patients, we offer our services at a reduced rate. Our cash pricing is posted upon entry to our facility. KeysKares members receive additional discounts.
